The naming of a 7 year old as girl drum corps queen in Rio's Carnival. Now most people would see this as a little worrying. But not the little girl's father.
"Any man who looks at a seven-year-old child and feels any sort of excitement should go see a doctor," he said.
But that is not a great defense, it's pretty crap actually. And it's not just the fact that he is putting her in a very sexual role that is usually played by scantily clad grown women. (See above photos) but also, she is going to have to samba through the streets in the summer heat for 80 minutes.
"She has the aptitude to be a drum corps queen - you'll see it tonight. She has a seriousness inside of her when she is on the stage."
Okay... but even if she does have the aptitude to play the part, don't you think you should maybe wait a while? Possibly till she's at least a teen? And even then...
Hopefully somebody comes to their senses and stops this soon, but then what? The poor little girl has been promised this role (that I don't think she properly understands), has been training for weeks and is obviously having lots of fun dancing, and would be heart-broken if it was taken away. I don't think whoever organized this has really thought it all through properly. It was a bit of a stupid decision to make.
